I’d like to say it was a completely altruistic gesture but I found myself at Estoril books … at the photography section … and your identity/presence leaped into the forefront of my mind and I thought:

“Dayam that chick writes so authentically and I’m the ‘laat-lammetjie in my family and there’s a 5yr difference between me and my boet and we terrorised my momma so thoroughly and I dig her genuinely non-whining descriptions of her adventures with the boys and how she’s a working mom and is on a mission to take even better photo’s and those candle pics look pretty cool without being ‘biggie-best’ and I’m sure she’d love some photography books even if a stranger bought them and she wouldn’t think I was a weirdo at all and Stii seems really cool and he wouldn’t wanna “klap me stukkend” for being a “naais oke” to their “meisies” like those nasty kids in my neighbourhood who would always do the “wat kyk jy rooinek” thing and stare menacingly at my BMX. Man, those ‘rockspiders’ from Tom Naude Tegniese Hoorskool would always be on our case … ”

Of course this flashed by while I was also thinking:

“sheesh, why is this china with the obvious tendency to abuse hair wax and his local tanning salon standing 10cm away from the shelf I’m trying to browse through as well, I should make that intentional ‘throat-clearing’ noise that is so irritating instead of just asking him politely to stop tailgating the photo section”

There was way more rattling around in my head but I’ll stop now ‘cos someone who knows is gonna nag about me writing this blog-size comment and not updating my poor semi-orphaned blog.

So yeah, THANK YOU for writing so well and sharing your insights into being a wife/mom/slave/buddy/nurse/creative/CAW dweller and things - your blog makes me smile and think and want to be a better human being (and completely ignore the is/are-isms )
