Wow, this is a real eye opener. My two boys also Xbox addicts, but I purposely limit their exposure to car racing and strategy games.
Will this help?
Will it still bring out the violence within them?
Who knows?

I think that sometimes our kids do things unexpected, and often we cannot prepare for this, no matter how good a parent we are.

All we as parents can do is only our best, and sometimes it has to come after the effect.

Belinda, I think maybe you are being to hard on yourselves, maybe it is just a outburst / hormones.

P.S., I guess Stii's chance of getting a Wii for xmas is now looking seriously dim.

I wish I had all the answers Imel, honestly I do. And maybe it's hormones ... I am female and allowed to use that excuse...;)
But I wish I could, just for once have a look into the future and see if we are on the right track. Are we being to strict or to lenient? Is there enough ground rules and how much damage are we doing when bending those rules to accommodate everybody? Are we taking away their security when we want to be nice to them in allowing them to do something they are normally not allowed to do? There is so many questions that I have at this stage.

What you say is also true (I know) in doing the best we can. I feel so guilty being at work for long hours and not spending enough time with the boys. But that's a mother's heart talking now. I still believe that a mom must be with her kids when they are little and not slaving away in an office 11 hours a day.

PS: Stii never mentioned the Wii again after my outburst - he just sighed and whispered: "I guess wii are not getting a Wii anymore..." Needless to say, one look was enough...

Hi B,

I once heard the only way to spoil (and I mean ruin) a child is not by the giving of gifts but by the withholding of discipline. Good for packing away the PlayStation for now - its not practical to pack it away forever. SO .. teach them while you play and censor his games I think. I know how difficult it is to check them all the time.

Follow your heart and remember God equipped you to be their parents because He knows you can with His help...

Thanks Marissa, so true. Without discipline and routine our household is in ruins. I've seen this now again, with the holiday. Sometimes it feels like I never stop shouting and screaming. At this stage I only need a broom ...
